Backstory

FutureMusic has released Urban Rhythm's "Backstory" LP. Seven Drum 'n' Bass and Illbient tracks, including Max A/C, Dead Pixel, and Manhunt, highlighting the genesis of Acid 'n' Bass.

"Backstory" features seven Drum 'n' Bass and Illbient tracks that were released from 1999-2006 on 12" vinyl, including a few gems that were performed at underground events in New York City from that time, but never released.

With "Backstory," listeners will be able to hear the genesis of the Acid 'n' Bass genre that Urban Rhythm pioneered by infusing Drum 'n Bass with acid lines from the famed Roland TB-303. Tracks like "Max A/C," "Dead Pixel" and "Manhunt," are examples of this style. Although XLR8R magazine said it best: "While attending Unity Gain in search of new audio and visual experiments, we witnessed a groundbreaking marriage of rhythmic complexity and mind-bending sonic exploration. Urban Rhythm collided thunderous breakbeats head-on with the hypnotic, squelchy synthesizers of the 303, resulting in a ear-opening genre that is both relentless and hypnotic." Urban Rhythm's music is "a testament to the ever-evolving nature of electronic music, where creative innovation beckons us to explore the outer limits of sonic possibility."

Also included in this retrospective, is "Stay In My Heart" a collaboration between Urban Rhythm and Emily Curtis, an immeasurably talented singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. Curtis' pop sensibilities combined with Urban Rhythm's Illbient production, create a mystifying odyssey of rhythmic intimacy and sonic alchemy.

"Backstory" is now available on all music platforms.

En-Trance

Released March 7, 2023 - meditative tribal beats with nature's healing frequencies; includes acoustic-percussion–driven Just My Luck.

The title track, En-Trance, is a meditative excursion using nature's healing frequencies to reset your mind and put your body at ease. The second track, Just My Luck, is more upbeat and festive. Although Just My Luck sounds like it was created with electronic music instruments, synths and drum machines, it was actually created with acoustic percussion instruments recorded in my studio. It features congas, doumbek, djembe, rainstick, caxixi, talking drum and the waterphone. I hope you enjoy!
